Great Historical Significance
Many of the cities in south east Alaska have a long and sordid history. Sitka, for example, was the capital for the region when Russia controlled the territory. After reading the novel of the same name, the checkered past of this small city on the rugged Alaskan coast is my personal reason for going on this particular cruise, it is the first time, and for now, the last time Disney Cruise Line has plans to visit. Not to worry, I will be taking every opportunity possible to encourage them to return many, many times!
Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, some of our other ports of call are just as impressive, too! What is most surprising is the diversity found in the history. One might imagine that all the "major" cities in this area would share a history but each stop left its own unique stamp on history!
