Subject: Lovely Lille's Central Landmarks

Yes, Lille is a very lovely city. It is actually renowned for its beauty more than anything, but still provides a gracious number of awesome attractions for tourists. The city is only moderate in size, and is found in the Nord-Pas de Calais region of France. It sits just across from the French-Belgium border.

Even though the city is a moderate sized town by European standards, it is still the fifth largest centre in France. Therefore, tourists can fly into the conveniently positioned Lille Lesquin International Airport. However, due to the expedience of the European railway system, travelling here by train is also fast and efficient.

There are many landmarks in the city. A majority of these are close to the Lille City Centre hotels found in the downtown area. The following highlights of Lille's central landmarks can be viewed below.

- The Opera House is a magnificent site that stands in the eastern part of downtown Lille. What's that you say? Not a fan of the opera? That is fine, as the building itself is worthy of a look, and if tourists enjoy going to the opera, then it is just an added bonus.

- The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best art galleries and art museums in the entire continent of Europe. Without a doubt, the museum is a part of the city's top tourism sites. Works of art from as far back as the 15th century, all the way up to the 20th century, throughout Europe, can be found at the museum. The palace building which contains the museum is also worth checking out.

- The Cathedral of Notre Dame is one of the most beautiful structures in the city. It is a magical cathedral, but looks somewhat different to other cathedrals of France because of its more modern fa?ade. Nevertheless, the inside of the church is simply breathtaking.

- La Vieille Bourse is situated between two of the largest squares in the downtown area of Lille. It was built in the year 1653, and contains a series of terraces, brick built houses and buildings, not to mention a lovely courtyard that regularly hosts a famous used-book market.

- The Vieux Lille region of the city is the old quarter, and is home to some of the structures mentioned above, including the Notre Dame Cathedral. Visitors don't really need to go in anywhere or do anything to spectacular when they are there, except stroll through the cobbled streets and take in the phenomenal atmosphere.

- One of the largest squares in the city is the Place Rihor, which also contains the beautiful Palais Rihor. A tourist information centre is located within the square, not to mention dozens of restaurants and historical houses to experience.

- The largest square in the city by far is the Place du Generale de Gaulle. It is commonly known as Grand Place. Containing a beautiful fountain, statue, and some magnificent buildings of New-Flemish design, the Grand Place is definitely one of the more important tourism sites to explore in the downtown area of Lille.

- Fancy a swim? No, just joking, but there is a pool located in the downtown area that is no longer filled with water. It is now filled with magical pieces of art work in the aptly names La Piscine Museum, or Musee d'Art et d'Industrie de Roubaix.

- Including a beautiful park and one of the best zoos in the northern part of France, the Citadelle is an old fort that has attracted visitors for many decades. It is quite a fascinating design, built as a five-point star.
