Now we can be off grid when the power goes down. |

In preparation for the inevitable power outage we will eventually have, we invested in a PTO generator for the property. It is a generator that hooks to the back of the tractor. When researching generators, we discovered that we could easily spend $10,000 on a generator big enough to keep us running if needed.
With a little research, I found the PTO generator that runs off a tractor for just over $1000. The price was a lot cheaper because we are using the big diesel engine we already own... no need for another one.
We purchased the generator from Northern Tool.
The hut is built form left over metal and my own milled wood. I used oak for both strength and weight for the base to give it all the stability it needed to run a large generator like that.
The big silver box on the wall is a manual transfer switch from Ronk Electric. It cost over $500.
The small box between the two larger boxes is a plug that connects the generator.
We now have 240 volts at 50 amps running to the house if the grid goes down. All that at a sufficient 12,000 watts.
All in all, it cost about $2450. Our Home Events David Bailey Thing Building Arkansas Cabin Date taken: 2008 12 17 13:46 Wednesday Important Links: |

More articles Can Solar and Decentralized Generation Save California? Rooftops may not be the final frontier, but they do provide ample fields for cultivating solar panels. The beauty is that these buildings are already connected to the electrical grid and have an existing footprint, benefits that a remote solar installation don't always have. Industrial solar on empty land requires extensive permitting, studies and review of environmental impact, especially if it's federal. Those panels definitely can change a picturesque landscape. The Older Generation's Been Going Solar! One of the largest markets for solar power is senior living communities, both those run by private companies and those managed by state or municipal agencies. For the most part, these are solar panel installations to supplement on-grid power and reduce energy and operating costs. For communities managed by corporations or government agencies, it's logical: the cost of running senior living communities, whether post-55 complexes or those providing assisted living or advanced care services, have small profit margins. Along with lowering operating costs, solar energy programs instituted at senior communities often take advantage of incentives offered by federal and state agencies. Magnetic Energy for Free Energy to Power Your Home Magnetic energy has been variously used to help generations; notwithstanding, the use of this energy source to generate electricity for our homes with a small initial setup cost is to me among the greatest discoveries in our modern times. After the initial setup cost you enjoy electricity free of charge for they system does not run on fuel like ordinary generators do. W:6,S:42 |
