Today we went to see Munich oldest church (1180) Peterskirche or St. Peter's Church aka Old Peter., located conveniently between the marienplatz and the Market in the old town square.
This church It has recently been rejuvenated with gold leaf and the alter and organ loft are striking. In the second chapel is a bizarre relic of the skeleton of St. Mundita with two false eyes and jewels in his teeth. The interior is decorated with baroque accents and gold leaf medallions, there are a a series of frescos by Johann Baptist Zimmerman that line the ceiling.
We got there shortly after services had dismissed so the church was still a little hazy from the insence. However it is a magnificent church, the tower was off limits today but If you choose you can braze the 300 steps and see what is supposed to be the best view in Munich, On clear days you see all the way to the Alps.
