The history of fight begins nearly 200 years ago with balloons. There were two rival balloon systems the hot air balloons developed by the Montgolfier brothers and the gas balloon by Robert Charles. The first manned ascent in a balloon was by the Mongolfier brothers from the garden of la Muette castle near Paris in 1783. They were however very unreliable because they were dependent on the wind direction. Once propeller systems were invented it led the way to airship like the Zeppelin. From there came the winged palnces using Bernoulli's principal. this museum has some fantastic interactive exhibits demonstrating air flow over a wing. One in particular that we enjoyed was one that put the center of gravity in different sections of the aircraft and introduce a wind from above or beyond and show how the plane either can or can not recover. There is an entire floor and ceiling devoted to replicas od may different kids of aircraft including beginning test models for flight, where people used pedals for power or jumped off high surfaces with wings attached to them. It was amazing the ideas that these people came up with. There was also a replica of the Wright Brothers plane and the red barons, Fighter jets, war time cargo planes, passenger jets, prop planes and even a cut out of a Lufthansa jet. To gp a;pmg with the theme all the seating areas were airline seats. We also saw a vertical take off jet, from the 1960's this fighter jet had a vertical take off that eliminated the need for long runways, it could take off and land from anywhere. In addition to the planes there was also and elaborate section devoted to air traffic control. This Aeronautics exhibit is of the best exhibits in the museum, a must see!
