Click here to see more about Rothenburg on the Tauber and the Christmas Market

Today we slept in a little trying to get rid of our jet lag and did some work this morning. As a reward this afternoon we headed to the Marienplatz to the Christmas Markets. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had.  In the center of the platz and all the roads and adjoining platz'a there are stores and pubs and vender in booths selling hand made items. we started wandering around and came across one of the Munich's major department stores Ludwig Beck, I had spotted some leather purses in the window and had to go look.

In the process I also tried on several very posh hats and was not quite brave enough to purchase one, It was however fun to play. Next we made our way to Market where the vendors are set up and They had hand painted ornaments, in fact we always try and purchase an ornament for our tree during our travel so I purchased the most incredible hand painted scene of the new Munich square with the glockenspiel clock and the plaza, I am so happy with it. We also looked at hand made ceramic ornaments as snowflakes and wooden smoke men, authentic nutcrackers, little wooden trains for the kids handwooven tree topper angels, painting, wool hats, scarves and fuzzy boots.

I think I am going to try and find me a pair of those fuzzy boots. We continued to look through the shops and for lunch went to an imbiss, which is a to go stand for snack food. We each had a bratwurst, we did 2 red and 2 white brats to try them, they were both delicious but I think the consensus is that we prefer the white. We ate our brats at the little beer garden next to the stand and it a good tasting, very filling and a cheap meal. Next we started walking in search of an apotheke (Pharmacy), I caught a cold right before I left Port and I didn't think much about it except in this very cold weather it has gotten quite a bit worse so we went in search of some medicine.  We walked in and it was beautiful, all the medicine was organized in wooden cabinets with drawers for each item and the pharmacist at the counter listened to what I needed came back with some cold pill, gave me instructions on how to take them and was so nice.

Today we mostly did window shopping, wandered many streets until we hit the Viktualienmarkt, it is the German version of the farmers market, they have stands full of fruit, vegetables, fresh meat, cheeses, wine, bread and baked goods. We stopped in one of the pastry places and tried some apple strudel and a vanilla filled pastry puff, they melted in your mouth so good, we also tried a cheese shop and picked up several new varieties for cheese to try, they just looked interesting.  During our continued meandering we also ran across the galleria Kaufhof, it is huge, 5 stories and from what I can tell it was at least a city block. We went to the kids section so the boys could look the toys and David could find a European nintendo ds adapter. It was a mad house with all the Christmas shopping but, Still very interesting, I loved the puppets and marionettes and I have never seen a Lego buffet like this store had were there were tons of Lego in bins and you picked out the legos you needed and purchased then individually. In fact legos were a hot commodity overall they had Lego bins for sale that made our boys salivate with the thought of them. We are going to have to go back and let them spend some of their money in this store. About this time we discovered that we were exhausted and it the sun had gone down and it was getting really cold. So we went back to the house and made sandwiches and settled in with a movie for the evening.

The Beginnings of the Saxons of Transylvania
The Saxons of Transylvania were ethnic Germans who came to Transylvania during the Eleventh Century. They were from the Rhineland, the Mosel and other parts of Germany. They returned en masse to Germany in 1944. This is the beginnings of their history in Transylvania.

What Organist In Charleston Made History In The Church?
The Rich History of the Organ in Early Charleston, South Carolina The fifty years between 1750 and 1800 in the history of organists, organs, and organ music in Charleston were eventful: organists of this time were arriving in the colonies from countries other than England and Germany; women were becoming organists; and entire families were making organ playing their occupation. Church music took on greater importance and was improved. Coming to Charleston between 1750 and 1800 were several important Englishmen and Germans.

The Bach Music Family - How Long Did They Remain Significant?
Johann Sebastian's youngest son, Johann Christian, who was only 15 when his father died, lived for a time with his brother, Carl Phillip in Berlin, but soon left Germany. Johann Christian was the first Bach to do such a thing! He studied and worked for a time in Italy and learned to compose in a totally different style than any of the other Bachs. In fact, he composed mostly opera in the Italian style. Eventually he ended up in London where he was a court composer for the Queen.

How Did Johann Sebastian Bach Become a Famous Organist?
This week Johann is off to Halle to, as he says, "test the lungs" of the huge new organ at the Church of Our Lady. He improvises wonderful pieces for these events. Sometime those improvisations go on and on for over an hour! It is amazing. Therefore my wonderfully talented husband was given an increase in salary and a new position as Choirmaster at the Court of Saxe-Weimar. My husband's reputation is becoming legendary and his skills as an organist are known all over Germany.
