April 18, 2013 - Three recommendations for places to stay
For nearly three decades, Tigger has read and respected suggestions from TRAVEL+LEISURE Magazine. Today, Tigger loves three recommendations for places to stay on your upcoming visit to Southern California where the weather is perfect, the beaches are beautiful and the mountains, divine!
Palm Springs, California
The Alcazar Palm Springs
Starting at $129.00 (USD) per night, this brand new hotel offers a relaxing environment near the heart of Palm Springs. Decorated in a white-on-white decor, it is designed to create a minimal impact with the view of Mt San Jacinto and Tahquitz Peak looming in the distance. The red tiled roof buildings surround the idealistic setting design for your enjoyment.
There are two nearby recommendations for your dining pleasure. For breakfast and lunch they recommend:
Opened in 2008 Cheeky's has become a Palm Springs institution and arguably the best breakfast in the desert (not to mention lunch). The unique and thoughtful menu changes weekly and is highly praised for its unique farm-to-table cuisine, featuring seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Everything is perfectly seasoned with herbs from their on-site herb garden. Casual, simple, perfect!
For dinner, consider this Uptown location:
Opened in 2011 Birba is the nighttime darling of the Uptown District. This Danish design inspired restaurant/lounge offers urban dining with outdoor fire pits, couches, and a sprawling Carrera marble bar. The innovative menu features Italian wood fired pizzas, delicate salads, braised meats, and homemade desserts. Vibrant, current, and design chic, you can enjoy music, locally sourced fare, hand crafted cocktails, and an eclectic crowd...all under the sexy desert sky.
The Langham, Huntington
Located on the south side of Pasadena, the Langham Huntington has been an iconic landmark hotel since 1907. It is located near the base of the majestic San Gabriel Mountains, just minutes from downtown Los Angeles.
It is the perfect place to stay when you want access to the bustling city while being safely tucked away in your own private haven. With prices as low as $239.00 (USD) per night the Langham Huntington offers a variety of rooms and suites.
The accommodations stand out among all the greater Los Angeles area hotels as a haven for LA's elite. It will charm you with your own personal hideaway. If you are looking for more expansive surroundings, the elegant and spacious suites offer views over the gardens from the bedroom with a classic sense of style.
Dining on the property provides a few choices of dining styles.
Featuring the finest selection of seasonal aged USDA Prime Cuts, Australian Wagyu and Japanese Kobe-Style Beef, expertly prepared on a wood-fired grill by Chef Anthony Zappola. The menu is accented by creative, comfortable side dishes and the freshest local and global seafood.
Enjoy stunning views of the garden with seating near the glass-enclosed veranda or experience relaxed, communal dining at the Chef’s table. Start or end your evening in the Red Wine room, an intimate destination for pre- and post-dinner drinks.
For a more casual environment without loosing the refined surroundings:
The Terrace serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The comforting bistro style menu, created by Chef Erik Schuster, is comprised of seasonal and sustainable California cuisine, offering a variety of choices that will delight both the discerning and casual diner. The outdoor patio offers guests alfresco dining with a view of the Picture Bridge and pool, and provides the perfect setting for a business lunch or relaxing dinner.
Nearby you will find a large selection of events and sites from the Rose Bowl, the Rose Parade and Huntington Library, Art Gallery and Botanical Gardens.
Santa Barbara, California
Another new hotel, the El Encanto translates from Spanish as "The Delight" and lives up to it's name. This iconic Santa Barbara hotel is an enchanting hideaway for those who cherish privacy and serenity. Offering accommodations from suites to bungalows that start as low as $525.00 (USD) per weekend night you will find spectacular spaces that serve as a perfect romantic retreat. In the Bungalows one will find the comfort and privacy of your own personal sanctuary.
Dining is available on property as Executive Chef Patrice Martineau treats you to inspired gastronomic cuisine. Whether in the Dining Room and Terrace or the Lounge expect herbs directly from the garden, homemade unpasteurized beer and El Encanto cheese, each block made from the milk of Ellie, the hotel’s cow.
The Spa at El Encanto offers an array of treatments featuring local ingredients that relax the mind and rejuvenate the body.
Packages and offers available at El Encanto include luxury accommodations, welcome amenities, meal and spa credits and much more.
In addition to these amenities Santa Barbara offers the perfect embarkation point to explore the Urban Wine Tral in downtown Santa Barbara or continue on to the surrounding valleys and discover some of the world's top wine regions in Wine Country. When you are done with your adventures you can ensconce yourself at El Encanto. There's plenty to explore and experience on your own private patio or in and around the resort gardens. So, settle in and savour what is just one of many original culinary treats.
